Common Name or Meaning Manolo's Masdevallia [Manolo Arias Peruvian Orchid Nurseryman current]
Flower Size 2" wide 4.8" long [5 cm wide - 12 cm long]
Found in Huanuco department of Peru at elevations around 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, long-petiolate, elliptical, obtuse leaf that is cuneate below into the blackish petiole and blooms in the fall and winter on a slender, erect to suberect, 4.8" [12 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from near the middle of the ramicaul and having a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract.
"Distinguished by the blackish stripes on yellow sepals with very long, slendr tails. The margins above the middle of the lateral sepals are incurved with the apices in opposition. Below the middle, the lateral sepals are connate into a deep mentum bllow the column foot.The petals are acute at the apex wotha thick, basal process. The arcauate lipstands erect from the tipzof a long, incurved column-foot to which is is loosely hinged. Above the middl, the lipis contracted with irregular margins into a narrow lobule with a minute rounded callus." Luer 1999
