Common Name The Manta-Like Masdevallia [refers to the lip shape]

Found in Colombia and Ecuador at elevations around 2300 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, stout, blackish ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 short, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a slender, erect, 2 to 2.4" [5 to 6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract.
