LATEEARLY

Common Name The Norris' Masdevallia [Mr & Mrs George Norris of Texas current]

Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm] wide

Found in Peru without locational data as a small sized, presumably epiphytic orchid with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by a loose tubular sheath and 2 to 3 others below carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, cuneate below intothe petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, peduncle 4.4" [11 cm] long, provided with a loose bract below the middle, single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the ovary floral bract.

"This relatively large-flowered species of SUBGENUS Masdevallia SECTION Masdevallia SUBSECTION Coccineae Veitch 1889 is morphologically similar to Masdevallia veitchiana , but the broad, long, petiolate leaves of the former differ markedly from the thick, narrowly linear leaves of the later. In both species, the lateral sepals expand beyond the cylindrical, sepaline tube, but the dorsal sepal of M. norris-iorum is noticeably narrower than that of M. veitchiana. The petals and lip do not differ significantly." Luer 1006
