Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Chiriqui province of Panama at elevations around 1900 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, densely caespitose epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, obovate, obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a slender, arising from low on the ramicaul, erect, purple spotted, 3.6" [9 cm] long, successively single, 2+ flowered inflorescence with a tubular, somewhat shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
" Similar to M floribunda but the large plant and broad, obtuse and thickly coriaceous leaves. The peduncle is purple spotted and erect bearing the flower below the tips of the leaves. An early bud of a successive flower is present in the floral bract. The sepals are connate into a sylindrical tube that is yellowish above with a stout, erect, yellow, purple spotted tail and purplish below with a pair of close, much shorter, similarily spotted tails. The marginal callus of the petals, the hallmark of the section, defines a concave, labelalr half above the basal third. An additional longitudianl; callus is present on the opposite half above the middle. The lip is oblong with the diagonal, superficial folds above the middle." Luer 2004
