Common Name The Peach Colored Masdevallia

Flower Size 3/4 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm]

Found in Ecuador and Peru in cloud forests at elevations of 1500 to 1600 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with blackish, slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 thin tubular sheaths carrying a dark green, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute leaf with the base cuneate into the slender petiole and blooms in the winter and spring on a slender, suberect to horizontal, 2 1/4" [6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract that is held below the leaves.

Disitinguished from others by the deep, cylindrical, peach-colored, sepaline tube and deep within is the narrowly oblong lip with extremely minute lateral wings needing magnification to be seen. Potting or mounting are acceptable as well as shade and constant moisture and cold to cool temperatures even though this species can tolerate drier and brighter conditions than many Masdevallia.
