Common Name or Meaning The Fiery Masdevallia [refers to the flower color]

Found in Peru at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender, blackish, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dark green, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, slender, 2.8 to 3.2" [7 to 8 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from near the base of the ramicaul, with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract.
