Common Name or Meaning The Robust Masdevallia

Found in Ecuador without collection data as a small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on an stout, arising from near the base of the ramicaul, with a bract on the lower quarter and another above the base, ascending, 6 to 8.8" [15 to 22 cm] long, loose, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with an inflated, shorter to as long as the ovary floral bract.

"Closely allied to M ayabacana but differs from all others in the subsection by the acute, distinctly petiolate base leaves. From M ayabacana it differs in the non-gibbous sepaline tube, oblong petals and a lip witha keel beneath the paex and with well developed basal resesses as seen in M dura." Luer 1998
