Common Name Serna's Masdevallia [Original collector of species 1900's]

Found in Putumayo department of Colombia, Morona-Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador and Peru on the eastern slopes of the Andes in rainforests at elevations of 700 to 900 meters as a miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths carrying an erect, to suberect, thickly coriaceous, elliptical-obovate, subacute to obtuse leaf that gradually narrows below into a subpetiolate base and blooms in the fall on an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, provided wwith a basal bract, stout, triquetrous, 3 1/5 to 5" [8 to 12.5 cm] long, successively 1 to occasionally 2, several flowered, racemose, congested inflorescence with broadly conduplicate, imbricating, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
"Similar to the M bicolor complex but distinguished by the yellow-green flowers with expanded synsepal that are borne successively in a congested raceme. Occasionally 2 flowers open simultaneously." Luer 2000
