Common Name The Splendid Masdevallia

Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]

Found in southern Peru at elevations around 4045 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing natural hybrid between M. barlaeana × M. veitchiana with stout, erect ramcauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, subacute to acute, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later fall and early winter on a relatively slender, erect, 6 to 5.8" [15 to 17 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract below the middle and holding the flower well above the leaf.
