Common Name or Meaning Trautmann's Masdevallia [German Orchid Enthusiast current]

Found in Zamora-Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, blackish, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, black tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring, on an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract at the base, slender, 1.2" [3 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with as long to longer than the pedicel a tubular floral bract.
"Characterized by the short peduncle and pastel colored flower with relatively short, forwardly directed tails. The basal tooth of the petals is acute and elongated beyond the base. Most distinctive is the narrowly oblong lip with a pair of calli along nearly the entire length." Luer 1999
