Common Name The Three Wheeled Masdevallia [refers to the 3 very equally rounded sepals]

Found in Ecuador and Peru at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a slender, subhorizontal to ascending, 1.6" [4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract at the base and a floral bract.
