Common Name The Hunter's Masdevallia {A dedication to all that hunt orchids]

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

Found in southern Ecuador and northern Peru at elevations of 2200 to 2400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte that is with a blackish, slender, erect ramicaul enveloped basally by 2 loose tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse leaf that is cuneate into the blackish petiole and blooms on a basal, .8 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] long, suberect, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a thin tubular floral bract holding the flower below the leaves occuring in the winter.
