Common Name The Plow Share Masdevallia [refers to the apical callus of the lip]

Found Peru without collection data as a mini-miniature sized orchid with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute, gradually narrowing below into the petilalte base leaf that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, slender, sharply triquetrous below, obscurely triquetrous above, purple spotted, 8.4" [21 cm] long, congested, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with tubular, imbricating, half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"Disitinguished by the narrow, acute leaves that are far exceeded by a slender peduncle that is only slightly triquetrous towards the congested raceme. The flower is relatively small witha long, recurved tail fo the dorsal sepal and shorter tails of the synsepal. From the short sepaline tube the synsepal is expanded. The petals are narrow and acute witha rounded callus at eh abse. The lip is pandurate with a tall, pointed callus like a plow ahre just above a long-apiculate apex." Luer 2000
