Common Name or Meaning Wuerstle's Masdevallia [German Orchid Enthusiast current]

Found in Colombia without locality as a small , caespitose epiphyte with erect, stout, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close, thin tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a stout, terete, erect, arising from the base of the ramicaul, provided with a bract near the middle and another at the base, 10.6" [27 cm] long, loose, simultaneously opening, several flowered, racamose inflorescence with thin, tubular, not imbricating, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Similar to M medusa except M wuerstlei has smaller flowers with shorter tails, a terete peduncle with a tubular bract near the middle and with a loosely flowered raceme with the rachis visible between the floral bracts. The pedicels of both concepts are elongated but M wuerstlei are conspicuously twisted." Luer 1999
