Common Name The Horned Maxillaria

Found in Junin Peru in cool wet cloud forests at elevations of 1800 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with oblate, moderately compressed, rounded edge pseudobulbs enveloped by 2 basal pairs of distichous, imbricate sheaths and carrying a single, apical, oblong-ligulate, tapering into the conduplicate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on 2 on each pseudobulb, suberect, terete, 1.6 to 2" [4 to 5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence enveloped by 4 to 5, subinflated, close tubular bracts.
