Found in Colombia and Chimboraza province of Ecuador in montane forests at elevations around 600 to 1800 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with elongate, branching rhizomes giving rise to ovoid, compressed pseudobulbs subtended by foliaceous bracts with blades subequal to the single, ligulate, obliquely bilobed apically leaf that blooms in the fall on 1 to 2, axillary, arising from the base of newly matured growths, peduncle to 1" [2.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
Often cited as Maxillaria imbricata a yellowish, white flowered species native to Brazil and Bolivia,
