Common Name Foldat's Maxillaria [Venezuelan Botanist 1900's]

Found in Venezuela and Guyana on tepuis at elevations around 1200 meters as a small sized, cool growing apparent epiphyte with an abbreviated rhizome with aggregate, narrowly ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped by appressed, scarious sheaths and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, erect, narrowly elliptic, acute, attenuate below into the subcylindric pseudopetiolate base leaf that blooms on a basal, peduncle subterete, 1.2 to2" [3 to 5 cm] long, entirely enveloped by 4 to 5, tubular, acarious sheaths, single flowered inflorescence with elliptic, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts.
Similar to M auyantepuiensis but differs in the inflorescence longer than the pseudobulb [vs subequal to shorter], narrowly elliptic floral bracts [vs widely elliptic], petals to .18" [4.5 mm] wide [vs at least.24" [6 mm] wide] and a conspicuously narrower labellum which is three times longer than wide[ vs 2 times as long as wide].
