Common Name The Shiny Maxillaria

Found from Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in elfin and upper cloud forests as a large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte at elevations of 350 to 1800 meters with an elongate stem enveloped by imbricating, scarious, that low down are non foliaceous and towards the apex are foliaceous sheaths carrying linear, acute leaves that are conduplicate towards the base, which blooms mostly in the summer and fall on a newly maturing pseudobulb with axillary, short fasciles of several to many flowers held close in to the stem.
