Found in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in moss within cloud forests at elevations of 2900 meters small sized, cold growing epiphyte with a slender rhizome with light green, ovoid, compressed pseudobulbs enveloped by short, nonfoliaceous sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, green, carinate beneath, linear to linear-lanceolate, obtuse, shortly cuneate into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on simultaneously, 6 to 10, erect, basal, slender, terete, enveloped by several, sheathing bracts, 4" [10 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence carrying maroon-purple flowers
