Found in Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador in high cool lower cloud forests at elevations of 47 to 4100 meters as a medium sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with ovate-oblong, compressed pseudobulbs with 3 to 4 basal, distichous, imbricating, scarious sheaths with linear-lanceolate, acute leaves that are attenuate to a short, conduplicate petiolate base and blooms on a basal, 4 to 6" [10 to 15 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from newly matured pseudobulbs and subtended by 3 to 5 basal, distichous, imbricating, scarious bracts and has a single, showy flower held at mid leaf occuring in the summer .
