Found in Peru and Ecuador at elevations of 2200 to 3000 meters as a cold growing epiphyte with no pseudobulbs, but with oblong, acute, twice as long as the petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, straight, somewhat longer than the petiole, the bracts, apiculate, adpressed, single flowered inflorescence with an obtuse floral bract.
?Similar species include M nigrescens, M colorata, M tonsbergii and M niessenae.
