Common Name or Meaning The Colored Maxillaria

Flower Size 2.7" [6.9 cm]

Found in Ecuador at elevations of 1900 to 2300 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphtye with ellipsoid, compressed pseudobulbs carrying a single apical, elliptic-lanceolate, acute, conduplicate petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, to 5.2" [to 13.3 cm], single flowered inflorescence arising with a new growth, enveloped by thin, papery, purple brown bracts and carrying a single, nodding, fleshy flower.

Similar species include M nigrescens, M niessenae, M tonsbergii and M longipes.
