Common Name The Revolute Masdevallia [refers to the rolled sides of the synsepal]

Found in Morona-Santiago province of Ecuador at elevations of 200 to 850 meters as a miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ellitical, subacute to obtuse, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms on a slender, arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract at the base, ascending erect, triquetrous, very congested, successive several flowered, racemose, 8 to 10" [20 to 25 cm] long inflorescence and inflated, imbricating, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
"Disitinguished by a slender, triquetrous peduncle that far surpasses the coriaceous, elliptical leaf. The raceme is very congested, several flowers are produces successively within a .2" [5 mm] long rachis. The sepals form a short tube with the tail of the dosrsal sepal thick, terete and erec. The synsepal is broad with recurved margins and with laterally deflexed, triangular apices. The lip is arcuate and broadly oblong with flat marginal folds. The epichile is traversed with 3 parellel carinae and the apex is decurved, obtuse and abruptly acuminate." Luer 2000
