Part Sun Fall

Common Name The Rigid Maxillaria

Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]

Found in Guyana, Venzuela and Brazil cloud forests at elevations around 1000 to 1600 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with about 6" [15 cm] between each, robust, ovoid to elliptic, brownish pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a scarious sheath and carrying a single, apical erect, linear-oblong, coriaceous, rigid, conduplicate leaf that blooms in the fall

This species and M pendans are often cited as synonyms, I have left them separate until I hear from the Brazillian experts as the two pictures that I have are definitely different species. This one matches Hoehne's drawings of 1953 much better but differs in having a single inflorescence instead of several.

Synonyms Camaridium rigidum (Barb.Rodr.) Schltr. 1924; Laricorchis rigida (Barb.Rodr.) Szlach. & Sitko 2012; Ornithidium rigidum (Barb.Rodr.) M.A.Blanco & Ojeda 2007
