Found in Colombia, Ecuador and southeastern and southern Brazil in rainforests near the sea at elevations of 200 to 500 meters as a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with spherical, laterally compressed pseudobulbs enveloped by 2 basal, oblanceolate, subcoriaceous leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying apical, oblanceolate, subcoriaceous leaves that blooms in the fall on a basal, slightly arched, 3.6 to 4" [9 to 10 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence
