Found in Pichincha, Imbabura, Azuay, Canar and Pataza provinces of Ecuador on steep forested slopes, in remnant low montane forests and cloud forests at elevations of 200 to 1600 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with a terete, creeping and partly ascending rhizome giving rise to a terete stem carrying 4 to 8, obliquely ovate-elliptic to elliptic, subacuminate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late fall and earlier winter on a terminal, erect, pubescent, to 8.24 to 13.08" [20.6 to 32.7 cm] long, peduncle 3.2 to 5.44" [6.2 to 13.6 cm] long, provided with 4, lax sheathing bracts, rachis [6.2 to 13.6 cm] laxly to subdensely many flowered inflorescence with ovate to broadly ovate, acute to subacuminate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally, laxly pubescent, white flowers or with dark green sepals and the petals and lip white.

"This species may be distinguished from the Colombian M. erythrodoides by its laxer inflorescence, flowers with an oblongoid-ellipsoid (not narrowly obovoid) spur, a labellum strongly thickened (vs. unthickened) in the basal half and a longer column .17 to .182 versus .132" (4.1 to 4.8 vs. 3.4 mm)."
