Common Name The Inflated Mormodes

Flower Size to 2 1/2" [6.5 cm]

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil in lowland forests at elevations of 450 to 1500 meters as a large sized, deciduous leafed, hot to cool growing epiphyte found often on decaying trees with oblong-ellipsoid to ovoid, clustered, slightly compressed pseudobulbs enveloped basally by several, imbricate, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying oblong to narrowly lanceolate, deciduous, acuminate leaves and blooms in the fall, winter and early spring on a mature pseudobulb after the leaves fall on a basal, lateral, to 15" [37.5 cm] long, few to several [7 to 12] flowered inflorescence that has nicely spicy, fragrant flowers.

After blooming keep dry until a new growth appears and is at least an inch tall before resuming water and food. This species should be divided often and kept to 1 or 2 pseudobulbs, this is enough for a blooming plant later in the year after a growth season. When the leaves fall it is time to suspend food and back off on the watering.
