Common Name Reymond's Myoxanthus [French Physician 1800's]

Flower Size 3/8" [1.5 cm]

Found in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador presumably in cloud forests at elevations of 1200 to 3500 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 5 to 9 hispidulous, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly ovate, acute leaf that is cuneate below into the subpetiolate base and blooms in the summer, fall and winter on a fascile of single, successive flowers on a very short inflorescence that arises from the apice of the ramicaul with pubescent, with shorter to as long as the pedicel floral bracts.

"Vegetatively similar to !Myoxanthus ceratothallis as a large size with a long, stout ramicaul bearing a long, narrow leaf. The sheaths are usually invested by a dense covering of long, dark scales, but occasionally the are reduces to low, transverse scales. The sepals and petals are heavily marked with purple or brown. The petals are markedly clavate, reportedly acting as osmophores. The lip is oblong and strongly arcuate with small, erect lateral lobes below the middle and a pair of lobules at the base. THe lip varies in width from .06 to .12" [1.5 to 3 mm]." Luer 1992
