Found in Siberia, Sakhalin Island, Japan and Korea in shady locales and on mossy rocks in forests at elevations of 800 to 2600 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a somewhat stout stem carrying several, widely spaced on the stem, orbicular to ovate, obtuse to acute apically, obtuse rounded into the base leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, sparsely villous, .6 to 1.2" [1.5 to 3 cm] long, 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with oblong to ovate-lanceolate shorter than the ovary, abaxially sparsely villous, ciliate margins, acute to acuminate apically floral bracts
