Found in central Shanxi, western Henan, and Liaoning provinces of China in Tilia forests in humus rich soils at elevations of 700 to 1900 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with a slightly curved rhizome giving rise in the later August to a slender, 2.4 to 3.2" [6 to 8 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with 5 to 7, membraneous, lowermost tubular, ovate-lanceolate above sheaths and lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts
