Found in Shaanxi province of China in forests at elevations around 2900 meters as a miniature to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a rhizome giving rise to an erect, slender stem without leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, peduncle glabrous, provided with 3 to 4 sterile, tubular, membraneous bracts, rachis 1.6 to 4.8" [4 to 12 cm] long, villous, densely 20 to 40 flowered inflorescence with oblong, mucronate, a bit shorter than the ovary floral bracts
