Common Name The Folded Nervilia - In China Mao Ye Yu Lan

Found in the Assam, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Western Himalayas, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Java, Sumatra, New Guinea, Philippines, Taiwan and Queensland Australia in shaded and damp forests along valleys at elevations around 200 to 1600 meters as a miniature to small sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial orchid with a very short, brown-purplish leaf stalk and a heart-shaped, outer edge evenly rounded, both sides hairy, with many curved veins raised alternately above and below the leaf that blooms in the late spring on an erect 2 1/4" to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence.

This orchid needs hot to cool, humid conditions with a dry winter rest when the deciduous leaf falls, the new leaf appears in the early spring and the flowers a few months later, after the leaf has matured and fallen away.
