Common Name or Meaning Lankester's Notylia [American Orchid Enthusiast in Costa Rica 1900's]

Found in Costa Rica in moist forests at elevations of sea level to 1500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, oblong-elliptic, basally rounded, obtuse apcially leaf that blooms in the fall on a pendent, lateral, 1.6 to 6.4" [4 to 16 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence.

Distinguished from other Costa Rican species by the free, notably fleshy sepals and the obtuse lip and pungently spicy scented flowers.
