Found in Colombia and Ecuador as a medium sized, cold growing epiphyte at elevations around 2300 to 2700 meters with ovoid-pyriform, ancipitous pseudobulbs enveloped basally by several pairs of distichous, imbricating, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying 2 apical, ligulate, subcoriaceous, acute, conduplicate beow leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a usually erect, dull crimson below, pale green above, many branched, rebranching, somewhat vine-like, to 3 to 4' [90 to 120 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant, showy flowers.
