Common Name or Meaning The Graceful Cyrtochilum
Flower Size 5/8" [1.5 cm]
Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in very wet montane forests at elevations of 2400 to 3200 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing semi terrestrial with black sooty green appearing, tightly clustered, ovoid, compressed, smooth pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a pair of foliaceous sheaths and carrying a single apical, elliptical, basally conduplicate leaf and blooms in the fall on an erect, arching to subpendent, to 12 to 40" [30 to 100 cm] long overall, paniculate, distantly branched, straight to fractiflex, branches to 4" [10 cm] long, each 4 to 10 flowered, few to many flowered inflorescence with adpressed, scale-like floral bracts and carrying slightly campanulate flowers arising from the basal leaf sheath of a mature pseudobulb.
Sometimes a plantlet or keiki will arise at the apex of an older leafless pseudobulb.
