Found in northern Vietnam in primary and secondary broad-leaved evergreen, humid, smontane forests usually on steep shady slopes at elevations of 1500 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a dark purple almost black, leafless, fleshy plagiotropic, ascending part, leafy, glabrous stem carrying 2 to 7 spirally arranged, ovate, usually slightly oblique, sometimes irregularily, broadly undulate along the margin, 3 main veined, velvety black with white median stripe above, uniform velvety pale dark purple below, acute to apiculate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, straight, pink, sparsely hairy with short glandular hairs, peduncle 2 to 4.8" [5 to 12 cm] long, provided with 1 to 4, triangular, acute, sterile bracts , rachis .8 to 3.2" [2 to 8 cm] long, laxly 4 to 14 flowered inflorescence with pale pink-purple, sparsely shortly glandular hairy, triangular-cuneate, conduplicate, acuminate, slightly shorter to as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying odorless, non-resupinate flowers that do not open well
