Common Name The Back-Bent Cyrtochilum [refers to the lip]

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador on high, brushy hillsides near the paramo [cloud forest] at elevations of 2500 to 3300 meters as a medium to large sized, cold growing terrestrial with large, ovoid, smooth becoming wrinkled with age pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 3 to 4 pairs of imbricating, distichous leaf-bearing sheaths carrying 2 apical, erect, linear, thin textured, subacute, conduplicate below into the narrow, petiole-like base leaves that blooms in the spring through summeron a basal, erect to arcuate, to 3' [to 90 cm] long, peduncle to 32" [80 cm] long, paniculate, 5 to 6 branched, each branch to 10 flowered, inflorescence arising from the leaf bearing sheaths.

The pseudobulbs can become as large as a grapefruit and the Plant in situ is usually found beneath other plants and the pseudbulbs are often hidden under mats of grass or moss giving it plenty of shade.
