Common Name Poilane's Odontochilus [French Orchid Collector in SE Asia 1900's] - In China Chi Zhao Chi Chun Lan - In Thailand Champa din

Found in the Chinese Himalayas, Bhutan, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand in broad-leaved evergreen hill forests and valleys at elevations of 1000 to 1800 meters as a minature to small sized, warm to cool growing, mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with an erect, purplish red, stout, leafless stem carrying many overlapping, puprlish red, pubescent sheathing scales that blooms in the summer on an erect, 1.2 to 2.8" [3 to 7 cm] long, pubescent, subdensely several to more than 10 flowered inflorescence with purple red, as long as the ovaries floral bracts and carrying fragrant, non-resupinate flowers.
