Found in southern Ecuador and northern Peru in upper montane cloud forests at elevations of 1450 to 3300 meters as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with ovate, flattened pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 4 to 5, distichous sheaths with the uppermost being leaf bearing and carrying 1 to 2, apical, linear-lanceolate, acute, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on an axillary, erect, paniculate, shortly few branched, 5' [150 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence
