Found in Madagascar in wet montane forests at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters as a cool growing terrestrial with fusiform-cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 4, narrowly elliptic, long petiolate base, clear glossy green, plicate leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, simple, peduncle provided with basal sheaths, 4.8 to 6" [13 to 15 cm] long, 15 to 20 flowered inflorescence with slightly shorter than the ovary floral bracts..
