Common Name The Alvarenga Oncidium [A city in Minas Gerais near where the orchid was discovered]

Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil in mountanous regions in sandstone soil admist grasses and shrubs at elevations around 1070 meters as a medium sized, caespitose, cool growing epiphyte with an inconspicuous rhizome giving rise to elongate-ovate , slightly sulcate pseudobulbs enveloped by leaf bearing sheaths carrying green, subcoriaceous, oblong, conduplicate below into the base leaves that blooms in the fall on a lateral within the leaf axil of a foliaceous sheath, paniculate, to more than 32" [80 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence.
