Common Name or Meaning Bateman's Oncidium [English botaniust and Orchid enthusiast 1800's]

Found in Acre, Rondonia, Mato Grosso; Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias, Pernambuco, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janiero, Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul states of Brazil, Bolivia and Peru on grassy slopes, in gnarled vestigal forests amongst boulders and humus at elevations of 300 to 1200 [2600] meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with clustered, ovoid to subconical, slighly laterally compressed, rugose with age pseudobulbs carrying 2, light green, narrowly linear-lanceolate, acute, deeply keeled, leaves that blooms at most any time of the year on a basal, 36 to 48" [91 to 122 cm] long, paniculate inflorescence that is sparsely branched towards the apex carrying many, successively opening flowers.

The O ramosum complex includes O blanchettii, O caldense, O paranapiacabense; O pontagrossense and newer references refer them as all synonyms of a very variable O batemannianum. I have left them and their synonyms separate for now.
