Common Name The Plain Hedgehog Oncidium [refers to the spiny, pilose callus]
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 1500 to 2000 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with very narrowly conical, laterally compressed pseudobulbs partially enveloped basally by several distichous, imbricating leaf sheaths and carrying a single, apical, lanceolate, acute, conduplicate below into the narrow, elongate, petiole-like base leaves that blooms in the winter on a 24 to 39" [60 to 100 cm] long, arching, many flowered inflorescence that is shortly paniculate with branches that branch again and each carry several abortive flowers and a single apical viable flower
