Common Name The Single Flowered Oncidium

Flower Size 1 to 1.6" " [2.5 to 4 cm]

Found in southern Brazil in cool moist mountains at elevations of 100 to 1200 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with clustered, narrowly linear-oblong, laterally compressed, longitudinally grooved pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 1 to 2 thin, dry, leafless sheaths and carrying a single, apical, linear-lanceolate, obtuse leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a basal, 2 to 3" [5 to 7.5 cm] long, racemose inflorescence carrying the 1 to 5 nodding flowers towards the apex.

Very similar to O longipes and a few others and are very difficult to separate. This one is thought to be correct to current data and that being a plant that is less than 20 cm tall, a short inflorescence that is half the length of the leaves, flowers that are less than 3.5 cm betweeen the dorsal sepal and the lateral sepals, a lip that is slightly smaller than the lateral sepals, a midlobe of the lip that is large in relation to the tepals, lateral lobes of the lip that are large in relation to the midlobe, a triangular isthmus with a very ciliate margin, auricles with a lower edge that ends in a small tongue, a column larger than 5mm, a small stigma and a tabula infrastigmatica that is wider than long.
