Found in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Yugoslavia in short grasslands, garrigue, roadside banks, verges and open woodlands at elevations up to 1300 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial that blooms in the spring on an erect, terminal, dense to near lax, 4 to 10 flowered inflorescence.
