A miniature to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid that is found in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Balaeric Islands, France, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy, Albania, eastern Aegean Islands, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey in grassy and stony wastelands, scrublands and open forests in acidic soils at elevations of sealevel to 1200 meters with basal, 3 to 9, ovate to lanceolate leaves that blooms in late winter and spring on a lax, 3 to 8 flowered inflorescence.
