Found only in Japan on South Honshu Island in craggy montane grasslands at elevations of 3500 to 4200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying a few basal sheaths and 2, elliptic, obtuse leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, .2" [5 mm] long, few to several flowered inflorescence with herbaceous, as long to longer than the flower floral bracts.
