Found in the Chinese Himalayas, western Himalayas, India, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanamar and Taiwan on damp banks under trees, bamboo and wet pine, spruce, oak and rhododendron forests at elevations of 2300 to 3300 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing epiphyte with a corm-like pseudobulb carrying 2, long-linear, acuminate leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, 10.4 to 14.4" [26 to 36 cm] long, dense to subdense, many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute floral bracts
