Found in Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Brazil in swampy peaty soil in fairly tall montane forests at elevations of 50 to 300 meters as a medium to large sized, hot growing terrestrial with ovoid-pyriform pseduobulbs enveloped completetly by distichous sheaths and the bases of the plicate, strongly nerved, linear, acute, narrowing into the conduplicate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, to 28" [to 70 cm] long, terete, light green, glabrous, to 20 flowered inflorescence that can occasionally branch basally to form another vertical inflorescence
