Found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru on moss-covered shrubs in cold windswept elfin forests at elevations of 3000 to 4000 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphytic orchid with a creeping erect, occasionally branching stem, enveloped completely by imbricating leaf bearing sheaths and carrying fleshy, elliptic, ovate, apiculate, hispidulous margined leaves that blooms at most any time of the year on a short, axillary, lateral, .2" [6mm] long, racemose, 3 to 5 flowered inflorescence
